Frauds of over ₹2.50 lakh to be investigated by cyber police station at Shivajinagar

Pune Police commissioner has directed all police stations to transfer cyber fraud cases over ?2.50 lakh to the dedicated cyber police station at Shivajinagar. This decision was made due to the rising number of online cyber fraud cases being reported in the city.

Pune Police commissioner Retesh Kumarr on Thursday issued directions to all the police stations to transfer investigation of cyber fraud cases of over 2.50 lakh to the dedicated cyber police station at Shivajinagar. The commissioner has assured to boost manpower at the cyber police station to expedite the pending cases.

The decision comes in the backdrop of a rising number of online cyber fraud being regularly reported at all police stations in the city. As per data, over 24,500 cases were lodged in 2022 and in 2023 (till date) over 3,000 cases have been registered.

Earlier, cyber frauds over 25 lakh were assigned to Shivajinagar cyber police station, while cases of lesser amounts were handed to local police stations. This order was issued by former police commissioner Amitabh Gupta. However, the new commissioner, Retesh Kumarr, after taking review has issued new orders of directing complaints of over 2.50 lakh to Shivajinagar cyber police, said officials.

DCP (EOW and Cyber Cell ) Sriniwas Ghadge said, “The new orders will come into effect immediately and investigation will be done accordingly. The victims must promptly lodge complaints which will ensure the refund immediately.We are currently studying the different modus operandi being used by the fraudsters. This new order will benefit the citizens at large.”
